That means, "I don't like Canada." And after four and a half hours at THEIR border, nobody would! Here is what the line looked like when we approached Canada:
As mentioned in a previous post, Andy has this new obsession with guns. Knowing that this could pose a problem at the border, we did our research ahead of time. We called the border and figured out what forms we needed to fill out and made sure that we were all squared away with them. We sat in line for approximately an hour and half before we came to the window where the guy asks us all the questions, "Do you have X amount or more of fruits or vegetables?" No. "Meat?" No. "Do you have $10,000 or more in cash." I wish. "Any guns, knives, or other weapons?" Yes. "Alright, well go ahead and pull off over there and go inside where you'll pay the gun fee to the cashier." Sweet, welcome to Canada!
So we go over, park the truck, grab all the papers we'd filled out, and we go in and stand in another line. The guy who "helped" us was a complete jerk. He had just come in from his lunch or smoke break or whatever and was apparently not happy to be there. He didn't feel like doing his job, didn't like us, and sent us over to immigration (which I'm pretty sure isn't standard procedure for guns, but whatever, you can't argue with them). So we go over to immigration where we are interrogated for about 20 minutes. "What is your full name? Where were you born? When is your birthday? Where are you coming from? What is your job? What do you drive? BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH." He then tells us we need to take our little gun forms over to the U.S. side to have them stamped or whatever and then come back and Canada will take care of the rest. Well don't mind us, we Pricelined a room in Edmonton (eight hours away, I think), but we have all day to hop the border. So we walk with our papers through the U.S. side and talk to the guy there and he says, "Well, we have to physically see the guns and see that there is a serial number on them and that the serial number you've recorded is correct. Sooooooo you'll have to go get your guns and come back." My goodness! So now we go cut in line on the Canada side (since we are walking), flash our passports and papers, and go and get our truck and trailer and guns. We now have to drive back through to the U.S. for an inspection. We get back to the U.S. and go inside and fill out MORE paperwork and the guy just SIGNS IT! HE DIDN'T EVEN INSPECT THE GUNS! And NOW WE HAVE TO GO BACK AND GET IN THE HOUR AND A HALF LONG LINE TO GET BACK TO FREAKING CANADA! (Yes, we were happy campers at this point.) Luckily we found a shortcut (barely) where someone allowed us to cut back into the Canada line. After country hopping for several hours, at 5:00 pm we were finally on our way.
We were SO glad that we had a room waiting for us when we got to Edmonton. It was a crazy long drive that day, but it was an awesome hotel. Another word to the wise: If you go to Edmonton, stay at the new Marriott. You will not be dissappointed!
